Life Before Penicillin was created
Life before the invention of penicillin was tough. Many bacterial diseases were infecting and sometimes even killing people. And until 1928, there was no actual medicine to completely cure these diseases and save lives.
It all started in 1928, when Alexander Fleming was thinking of a way that he could help save lives. He had already experimented with many types of medicines. One day, while in his house, he noticed that his dirty dishes, which were covered in mold, had a clear area around it. He wanted to know what was happening and how it was. After much research, he realized that a specific type of mold, called Penicillium notatum, could clean bacteria. He was determined to find out how that would help him come up with a medicine to help people. After hard work, he found a way.
Before penicillin, there were multiple antibiotics that could help some diseases, but not completely. These antibiotics could clear some of the bacteria from the body, but they could not clear the disease from you.
This medication, called Penicillin was considered a "miracle drug".
